Deforestation has become a huge problem in the last 30 years, causing major ecological and agricultural difficulties. As a result tree nurseries have become vital in helping reset the balance. At BRDC we grow and tend young seedlings until they can either be planted on site or sold to be grown elsewhere.  Quick growing and nitrogen fixing trees such as Calliandra and Leuceana aid the soil and provide an easy source of firewood, whilst Mahogany and Grevillia (slow growing trees) offer a solution to deforestation. In addition we grow seedlings of different varieties of fruit (such as Pawpaw, Jackfruit, Passion and Avocado, which are sold in order to help sustain and support the Centre.
