Bungokho Rural Development Centre (BRDC) is a private vocational training institute, established in 1995. Located three miles east of Mbale on the Tororo Road, BRDC occupies 16 acres. The land was donated by Mrs Esiteri Tremlett who wanted to ensure her property was used for the benefit of the community of Mbale. Church Army Africa, under the wing of the Church of Uganda, was asked to establish, organize and conduct training at the Tororo Road site.
BRDC runs vocational training courses in carpentry, masonry, tailoring and sustainable farming. In addition, a tree nursery, demonstration farm and childrens' pre-school nursery also operate on the same site. To ensure the wider community can benefit from the training provided at BRDC, community based training was added to the BRDC program in June 2004. The community based training program conducted by BRDC aims to help local communities to help themselves and develop knowledge and skills that will assist them to overcome poverty. |
